About

As part of the programme accompanying the exhibition From the Land, Proposition hosted an in-person artist talk with exhibiting artist Kate Davies, discussing the ideas behind her innovative work and creative collaboration Unknown Fields, with Liam Young.

Their expedition work and land-based research explored the complexities of contemporary landscapes — from extraction, manufacturing and logistics to wilderness and ancestral homelands. Davies’ research took her to remote parts of the globe, where she was particularly interested in places where conflicting value systems coexisted. Her multidisciplinary and multimedia work explored the interwoven complexity of these territories as dynamic flows of matter and narrative, often co-opted by capital.

The talk was followed by a screening of film works by Unknown Fields, as well as work from Davies’ own practice.
