As part of London Climate Action Week, Proposition hosted the first public engagement on the Draft Antarctica Declaration, bringing together a range of perspectives to review and strengthen the Declaration.
The Declaration sought to advance new legal, ethical and governance approaches for the protection of Antarctica and the Southern Ocean. This first collaborative consultation marked the beginning of an international consultation process, bringing together Antarctic experts, environmental lawyers, Indigenous representatives, scientists and others to contribute to the Declaration.
The Declaration was set to be refined through this global consultation process, with the aim of being formally signed during Antarctica Week in Cape Town in December 2026.
The event provided an opportunity for everyone interested in contributing to the initiative to share their perspectives and take part in shaping the next stage of the Declaration.
