Artist talk and screening by Kate Davies / Unknown Fields

Part of the programme accompanying our current exhibition From the Land

Join us for an engaging in-person event with exhibiting artist Kate Davies, discussing the ideas behind her innovative work and creative collaboration Unknown Fields, with Liam Young. Their expedition work and land-based research explores the complexities of contemporary landscape - from extraction, manufacturing and logistics to wilderness and ancestral homelands. Kate’s research has taken her to remote parts of the globe, where she is particularly interested in the places where conflicting value systems coexist. Her multidisciplinary and multimedia work explores the interwoven complexity of these territories as dynamic flows of matter and narrative, often co-opted by capital. The talk will be followed by a screening of film works by Unknown Fields, as well as Kate’s own practice.

Kate Davies is an artist, architect and educator whose practice explores the intersections of art, architecture, ecology and technology. She is Head of the Architectural Association’s forest campus, Hooke Park, and co-Head of its Design & Make programme. She is co-founder of the nomadic design studio Unknown Fields, with Liam Young, and has exhibited internationally.

The talk is preceded by a separate tour of the exhibition with Curator Inigo Minns and Proposition’s co-founder Daniel J. Hudson (2pm, free to attend - see separate description on this page).

The exhibition will be open on the day from 1-7pm
